Hair transplantation is the gold standard of hair loss treatment worldwide and in Turkey. So what is this hair transplantation?
HOW IS THE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCESS?
First, evaluating our patient and planning the most suitable treatment for him is essential.
HOW IS THE HAIR TRANSPLANT INTERVIEW WORKING?
First, a trichoscopic assessment is made: the condition of the hair strands in the neck, that is, in the donor area from which the roots are taken. Then the area where the hair is sparse is assessed. Based on facial anatomy, age, and the amount of hair in the donor area, the doctor and patient decide our priorities together and plan the planting area. We visually show our patients the stages of this process, which takes 1 year.
HOW IS THE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION PROCESS?
Hair transplantation is performed to restore hair to balding or thinning areas of the scalp. There are many methods available on the internet. However, two techniques are most commonly used. Each type of surgery can be used alone or in combination to achieve the best possible results.
WHICH TECHNIQUES ARE USED?
I will talk about two crucial techniques. These are Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction, which we call FUE for short. The two techniques are different from each other. In the FUT method, the first and relatively old technique, the hair follicles are taken as strips from the donor area, and the hair follicles are separated and then transplanted. In this procedure, an incision is made in the neck in the donor area from which the hair is taken, and this area is then closed with micro stitches. The other technique we use most often is a hair transplant method called FUE, in which individual hair follicles are harvested from the patient's scalp using Follicular Unit Extraction. After the hair follicles are extracted, the thinned areas of the head are implanted and transplanted. For this reason, we plastic surgeons call this procedure hair transplantation. The secret of the success of both techniques is that the person must have enough hair in the donor area. In other words, hair transplantation cannot be performed on a completely bald person.
Meanwhile, the donor area is the area with hair, primarily up to the neck and sometimes to the temples; it is also important to have a genetically non-shedding section. It is also important to note that the hair follicles in the neck and temples are more resistant to hair loss than in other areas. The follicles (i.e., the hair follicles) in the donor area must be removed without harm and transferred to the hairless area healthily and naturally.
Apart from that, DHI (Direct Hair Implanter), Sapphire, and Slit methods you may have heard about and presented as new hair transplant methods are not new hair transplant methods. They are tools developed to facilitate and personalize hair transplantation and used in FUE and FUT.
Naturalness is important
Hair transplant results require naturalness. For this reason, two points are essential. First, the distribution of the hair taken from the donor area to be transplanted towards the recipient area, and second, the correct drawing of the front hairline. I do not find it natural to have your hairline drawn with a ruler. Therefore, creating slight asymmetries to define a natural line will lead to a successful result.
Pay attention to facial anatomy
Another vital consideration in hair transplantation is the patient's facial anatomy. It is crucial to perform the transplant according to the shape of the patient's face. Again, the volume of the bald area is important to plan the amount of hair to be transplanted and to ensure naturalness. Choosing a doctor experienced in hair transplantation is very important. Because you will be relying on your doctor's previous treatment outcomes. In addition, an experienced doctor will plan a particular hair transplant for you. Perhaps I must say this to clear up some urban legends in society. "The latest technique! The newest method! The most popular! The newest tool!" etc., is insufficient to achieve a successful hair transplant result. In my opinion, hair transplantation is something personal, so your potential is also the essential factor that determines your result. In addition, careful planting, planning, and the method used are other important factors influencing the result. Moreover, only an experienced doctor can decide about your hair structure, the density and volume of your strands, the density and thickness of the hair in the donor area, and in which areas the roots will be transplanted first and in which directions they will be transplanted. Hair transplantation results are a successful and motivating procedure compared to the past. However, it is not a magical procedure.
Success will result from your existing situation. Therefore, realistic expectations will increase satisfaction with the results.
